GRO-Biotech (Graduate Research Organizations for Biotechnology) is connecting the strong intellectual capital of New York's top graduate research institutions with the growing biotechnology and pharmaceutical presence in the tri-state area. In support of this mission, we are hosting the GRO Biopharma Conference at NYU's Langone Medical Center in Manhattan, to connect scientific leaders in industry with the innovators of tomorrow in academia.

We’ve carefully crafted an incredible lineup of presenters who are prepared to share their visions of the future and how their companies are leading the charge.
David is a biotech entrepreneur, life sciences fund manager, and Columbia University professor. He writes about healthcare and biotechnology for a variety of news outlets, including Forbes. Before venturing into healthcare business and entrepreneurship, he spent 14 years as an Ob/Gyn and reproductive endocrinologist.
Timothy is the site lead for Pfizer’s New York Centers for Therapeutic Innovation, which focuses on partnering with academic medical centers and disease foundations to develop new, targeted therapies for patients. Before joining Pfizer, he studied at the University of Chicago (PhD) and Harvard (postdoc), and helped establish two biotechnology startup companies.
After completing her PhD (Scripps) and postdoc (California - Berkeley), Rachel left the lab bench to become a biotechnology analyst. She served as managing director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch from 2009-2014 before joining Intercept, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel therapeutics for chronic liver disease.
Piraye started Celmatix in 2009 after studying fertility and embryology at Weill Cornell (PhD) and the University of Cambridge (postdoc). She was recently named a NYC Venture Fellow by the NYCEDC, and a Top Female Founder by TechCrunch. Celmatix uses big data analytics and genomics to improve fertility treatments and pave the way for proactive fertility management.
Glen co-founded Medidata after recognizing a need to improve how data was collected and stored in clinical trials. With expertise in both medical research and understanding of technology’s role in streamlining complex processes, he has been driving Medidata's mission since the company’s inception: Powering smarter treatments and healthier people.
The GRO Biopharma Conference will take place on April 20th at NYU's Langone Medical Center (550 1st Avenue) in the Farkas Auditorium.  Go in the main entrance of NYU Langone Medical Center. Once inside turn right, then at the first opportunity turn left and walk through the breezeway through the double doors. Farkas Auditorium is right past the double doors on the right hand side.

Founded in 2015, GRO-ÂBiotech is a coalition of graduate biotechnology organizations from the top life sciences programs in NYC ÂÂ (NYU, Cornell, Mount Sinai, CUNY Hunter, Columbia, Rockefeller, Sloan Kettering, and Albert Einstein) ÂÂwith a reach of over 500 graduate students, medical students, postdoctoral researchers, and clinicians.
Our mission is to provide our members with opportunities to learn about areas of drug development, healthcare, business, and life sciences entrepreneurship that they might not otherwise encounter in a traditional science training program.
